How to Open Elementor Popup on Page Exit Intent

How to Open Elementor Popup on Page Exit Intent

Starting from Premium Addons for Elementor version 4.10.66, the Modal Box widget for Elementor offers a new trigger: On Page Exit Intent. This feature ensures that a modal popup appears when a visitor’s behavior indicates they are about to leave the page. It’s a successful way to capture attention, retain users, or deliver important messages just before they exit your site.

In this article, we’ll guide you step-by-step on how to enable this trigger and test it effectively.

Requirements:

What is On Page Exit Intent?

The On Page Exit Intent trigger in the Modal Box widget detects when a user is about to leave your page, such as when they move their mouse toward the browser’s close button or navigate away and show the popup. This trigger is especially useful for:

  • Displaying last-minute offers or discounts.
  • Collecting emails for newsletters.
  • Highlighting important messages or promotions.

How to Enable the Exit Intent Trigger

Step 1: Edit Your Modal Box

  1. Open your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Go to the page or template where you’ve added Premium Modal Box widget.
  3. Drag and drop the widget to the preview area to access its settings.

Important Notes

  • Testing in Admin Mode: This option will not work while signed into your website under administrative mode. We are using browser local storage to prevent the modal box from opening every time the user exists the page. Doing that while logged in, will make you unable to see the changes you apply on the widget.
  • Proper Testing: To test the feature properly:
    • Log off from your administrative account.
    • Open your website in private or incognito browsing.
    • To set the modal, move your mouse either outside of the page area or toward the close button of the browser.
  • Clear Caching: This option uses the browser storage to check if the visitor previously saw the popup or not. So, once you see the popup while you are logged out, it will not show again until the browser cache is cleared.

Use Cases for the Exit Intent Trigger

Here are some creative ways to use the Exit Intent trigger to engage your audience:

  1. Offer Discounts: Provide a limited-time discount code to encourage users to complete their purchase before leaving.
  2. Grow Your Email List: Show a popup encouraging visitors to subscribe to your newsletter.
  3. Share Critical Information: Highlight important announcements, product updates, or a “before you go” message.

Conclusion

Premium Modal Box widget gains a great enhancement in the on page exit intention trigger. Using this function will help you to deliberately interact with visitors immediately before they leave your website, therefore increasing conversions and lowering bounce rates. Beside on page exit intent trigger, you can trigger the modal box on icon/image/text click and page load with the ability to add the number of seconds before showing the popup.
