AI Abilities is a Premium Addons for Elementor feature that connects AI clients such as Claude, Cursor, and Codex to your WordPress site through a built-in MCP server. Each ability is one action the connected AI can perform on your site. This doc covers one of the Discovery abilities: Get Widget Schema.
Get Widget Schema lets your AI client learn a widget’s or structural element’s exact settings vocabulary: every control key, its type, its allowed values, its default, and which other setting has to be on for it to take effect.
This is what separates precise building from guesswork. Before inserting a Premium Carousel, the AI fetches its schema and knows the real keys for slides, autoplay, and arrows, instead of inventing plausible-sounding ones that would silently do nothing.

Before You Start
This ability is part of the AI Abilities feature. If you have not set it up yet, follow the Elementor AI Abilities (MCP Tools) Tutorial first to enable the feature and connect your AI client. The ability must also be switched on under Premium Addons → MCP Config & AI Abilities, in the Discovery category:
Use Cases
Configure a widget right on the first try. For “Add a Premium Countdown ending July 31 with orange digits”, the AI pulls the countdown’s schema, finds the real date and color keys, and the widget lands configured, not half-blank.
Restyle with the correct keys. Prompt “Give every Premium Heading on this page a gradient fill.” The AI checks the heading schema’s style tab for the gradient controls and their prerequisite toggles before writing a single setting.
Explore what a widget can do. Ask “What can the Premium Grid widget actually be set to?” and the AI reads the schema and summarizes the options: layouts, hover effects, filters, and their allowed values.
Good to Know
- The schema includes each control’s visibility prerequisite as
depends_on, so the AI knows a value is inert until its gating toggle is set. The Build abilities auto-set the common ones. - The schema is filtered to the type’s own settings. Internal controls, Elementor-injected sections (motion effects, custom CSS), and the Premium Addons global addons are stripped; the addons have their own ability,
premium-addons/get-addon-schema. - The
tabinput narrows classic widgets to their content, style, or advanced controls, keeping the response small. Atomic (v4) types have no tabs; they return content props with their storage type, and their visual props live on styles instead. - A disabled Premium Addons widget is not registered, so its schema is not readable; the ability says so explicitly.
- Third-party plugin widgets require Premium Addons Pro, matching what
premium-addons/insert-widgetaccepts.
